about this thing

Job titles got weird.

Tech companies have invented hundreds of job titles. Most descriptions of those jobs are written for the people already in them — full of acronyms, rituals, and tools you've never heard of.

that job does what? is the opposite of that. It's a friendly explainer of what people in tech companies (roughly $50–$500M ARR) actually do all day, told the way you'd explain it to a friend.

We start with the core functions — marketing, sales, product, engineering, customer success, design, and ops — and we'll keep adding roles. Got one we missed? We're listening.

A few ground rules

  • → no buzzwords without translation
  • → no "ninjas," "rockstars," or "gurus"
  • → no 14-bullet job description energy
  • → explanations a smart non-expert can follow
