EMs are responsible for a team of engineers — their growth, happiness, the quality of what they ship, and how well the team works with everyone else. They still understand the tech but spend most of their time on people: 1:1s, hiring, performance, unblocking, and shielding the team from chaos.

Morning of 1:1s, planning meeting, hiring debrief, Slack DM with HR, reviewing a design doc, and writing the team's quarterly update.
